CRITICAL THINKING
TASK 1: Emotional and self-management
-For me, the emotions that are most difficult to manage when disagree with me are anxiety and frustation. The reason why I become anxious when someone else desagrees with me, is that I feel that the other person is winning the discussion but I have to deal with it trying to accept others' perspectives and realizing that I am not always right. I also get frustrated when I do not find the necessary arguments or the best words to expose my point of view. I think that I can deal with this feeling if I work on expanding more my vocabulary.
TASK 2: Influences in my thinking
-For me, the influences on my own thinking that I need to be most aware of so they don't prejudice my thinking are preconceptions and skeptical beliefs. Preconceptions are often constructed by bias, buy I recognize that I have to deal with those thoughts as we have to be opened to new and different beliefs in a critical discussion as well as skepticism.
TASK 3: Challenging opinions
-For me, the things most difficult about challenging the opinions of other people are their attitude and closed mind. Sometimes people become annoying when they just want to be right at any cost, disrespecting other people's arguments and getting angry durng the discussion.
TASK 4:
-Do you recognise anything of yourself in Bodner's description of students? What effect would the approach he suggests have your learning and undertanding?
In my personal case, I try to learn and understand all the knowledge that I get in clases. In other words, I try to get good grades but I also try to make use of that knowledge in my daily life or outside the classroom. I think that is the real aim of education, we do not just need to learns, but also understand.
TASK 5:
The barriers that I consider might be affecting my critical thinking abilities are:
1. Lack of methods and strategies
2. Lack of practice
3. Insufficient focus and attention to detail
Consider what you could do to manage these barriers in the next few months.
I think that I can improve those, practicing and training my critical thinking by talking with expert people. I think we can learn a lot talking and sharing thoughts with people with critical arguments.
